Pre-season Sports Evaluations
Pre-season sports evaluations are physical exams done for an athlete in order to form a baseline measurement of the athlete's status and abilities to enhance performance and help prevent injuries during the sporting season. These evaluations are essential for any athlete or sports candidate.
The goals in pre-season sports evaluations are to understand each individual's status regarding age, specific type of sport and the anticipated level of competition. In addition, the physical condition of each athlete is taken into account to get a full understanding of the athlete's abilities. This may include the history of previous injuries, weak areas that may need strengthening and existing conditions that affect performance such as asthma, diabetes, arthritis and the like.
In cases where there is a history of previous injury, timing is vital. Pre-season rehabilitation may involve treatment and management of these conditions to ensure these injuries are treated adequately and have adequately healed for the next season.
Through the physical assessment done by a sports physician at the Tshwane Orthopaedic Sports and Rehabilitation Centre, the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and psychological well-being of the athlete is all prioritised to ensure optimum health to start the sports season.
