Orthopaedic Surgeons
Prof. Archie Rachuene is the head of the department of orthopaedics at Steve Biko Academic Hospital and the University of Pretoria since April 2023. In 2009, he graduated from MEDUNSA with a medical degree. In 2014, he began his postgraduate studies in orthopaedics at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences university, where he earned the FC Orth (SA) in 2017 and MMed Orthopaedics in 2018. In 2019, he went to the University of Cape Town and completed fellowship training in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. In 2022, he graduated from Harvard Medical School with a certificate in Surgical leadership.
He founded and managed the Shoulder & Elbow Orthopaedic Unit at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital between 2020 and March 2023. He has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, both locally and internationally. His area of expertise is shoulder and elbow surgery, and he has experience in both private and public health practices and he considers himself an advocate of better access to healthcare for all.
