Musculoskeletal Radiology
In order to deliver comprehensive care to our patients, the Tshwane Orthopaedic Sports and Rehabilitation Centre offers the full range of skeletal radiology to enhance the accuracy of treatment.
Musculoskeletal imaging is a subspecialty of radiology where the priorities include ordering and interpreting medical images of bones, joints and associated soft tissues and diagnosing injuries and disease. Once diagnosed, treatment may be sought from our team of orthopaedic surgeons.
As musculoskeletal problems can be the result of various circumstances including work, accidents, sports injuries, genetics and lifestyle choices, accurate diagnosis is essential to the treatment process. Musculoskeletal radiology may involve:
- X-rays (plain radiography)
- Fluoroscopy (a type of X-ray that creates moving images of the functioning of joints and soft tissue)
- CT scans
- Ultrasound (used to image the anatomy and function of soft tissue around bones and joints)
- MRI scans
