Dr Cynthia Sathekga is a qualified Orthopaedic Hand Surgeon who specialises in burn contractures with sports injuries, brachial plexus surgery, congenital deformities, sports and work related trauma injuries as well as general elbow, wrist and hand pathology.

Dr Sathekga is passionate about teaching and succession planning, she’s not only mentoring medical officers and registrars that have shown interest in Hand surgery, but she is currently partnered with Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital and Witwatersrand University in teaching Hand fellows as part of private/public partnership. She is currently holding a Hand surgeon sessional position at the University of Pretoria in the department of plastic surgery and teaching at the University of Free State as part of her outreach program.

In pursuit of her leadership development, Dr Sathekga completed her Surgical Leadership Program studies with Harvard University in 2022.
In addition, she is highly involved in the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, heading and headed several courses including Microsurgery and was the recipient of the Khanyisa Award for Best Doctor of 2018/2019 nominations.

She believes in the philosophy of accessible quality healthcare. In her years of professional practice, she established a number of projects that are in operation at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, this includes;
